Main Street Roofing uses the BUR System (tar and gravel) for commercial flat roofing projects. BUR is an acronym for “built-up roof membranes”, and this system of roofing has been used in North America for more than 100 years.
Composition of a BUR roof system typically is comprised of three basic components necessary for a durable roof – waterproofing, reinforcement, and surfacing.
1. Waterproofing – Bitumen (tar or asphalt) provides waterproofing.
2. Reinforcement – Reinforcing fabrics (roofing felts or ply sheets reinforced with glass-fire or organic mats) create a finished membrane.
3. Surfacing – Surfacing finishes may include aggregate (gravel or slag), glass-fibre or mineral surfaced cap sheets, aluminum or elastomeric coatings, or asphalt.
Alternating layers of waterproofing and reinforcement are then covered by a surfacing component. Main Street Roofing has the knowledge and skill to properly install a BUR roofing system for your commercial building. Give us a call for a free estimate on your commercial roofing project.
